PROJECT III
DESIGNING WITH ARCHITECTURAL PRINCIPLES + MATERIALITY + CONTEXT + USER
TROPICAL SOLITARY HAVEN
Brief
We were given a site located in Subang Ria recreational park and were required to do a site analysis & responses in order to design a solitary haven for two users which was me myself & my pet dog. The structure was said to be within the built-up space of maximum 100sqm. ensuring good quality living & working throughout the "quarantine" period to ensure mental & physical wellbeing.
Outcome
the outcome of this project was a 1:100 scaled model with compilations of orthographic drawings & diagrams.
The Amorphous House
The amorphous house is a tropical solitary haven located in Subang Ria recreational park. The definition of amorphous is when a shape/form is not clearly defined “an amorphous , characterless conurbation”. Built with different sizes of squares arranged in a hierarchy manner with a touch of rhythm.
To create a space that can be turned into a multifunctional working space where a place that one thought was a floor becomes a chair, a ceiling, a wall from various positions. A spatiality that preserves primitive conditions of a harmonious entity before various functions and roles are differentiated
spaces are arranged in a hierarchy manner with different levels. which can be seen in the hobby space as well as discussion space so that I am able to enjoy views from different levels.
Self Reflection
As half of the semester was conducted online, i would say it was quite difficult for me to feel motivated to complete the final project as my friends & tutor wasn't there physically and there was no studio feel to it. however, i managed to complete it on time with the support of my tutor @Ms Alia.
The process of interpreting & analysing users' characteristic & needs to the design of a small timber structure was a tough one but it has also taught me that when designing a building, it is important to meet the users requirement & also respect the site context that balance both internal & external design values.
